Sandra and I watched “the 6888” last night, all about this Black women’s Army squad which was given the impossible/improbable duty of straightening out millions of pieces of personal mail that soldiers and family members had sent to one another in 1944, during WWII! … letters which had filled many airplane hangars and how these brave, strong women deciphered the addresses and names and numbers to make sure these precious pieces of personal mail got through.
This leader, Captain Adams, was a no-nonsense officer who expected THE MOST from all of her female soldiers and would not expect anything but the BEST from them! It was a touching look into a true life story of these dedicated young women who assisted in raising morale with the troops AND THEIR FAMILIES! When the letters got through, the morale raised tremendously!!
I was so graced to with this film with my African American friend and X-wife Sandra…an amazingly strong and thoughtful person who I am grateful to still be in relationship with…Although we are no longer a married couple, we are best of friends, always looking for ways to Grace one another with our Presence. Sandra, a former public librarian, is intelligent AND beautiful, a great combination of traits rest in her favor!!
