I am so grateful for Lorraine, my MOM, who held me high even when I was dipping low! I am the 9th of 9 kids, yet I believe MOM and I HAD SOMETHING SPECIAL!!
I remember vividly the day I got upset in kindergarten and headed for home, some 5 blocks away! It just so happened that the principal was walking by, and I BSed my way into explaining that I had to GO HOME NOW!! I must have caught her on an off day because she didn’t stop me from cruising towards home…I wonder what I said to her that freed me up, as a 6-year-old to be able to BS this principal to let me go…
When. I got home, I sat down in the kitchen and began to cry…Mom found me there—all emotioning out…she had pity on me and asked me why I had come home. I had been teased by Joey Desmarais and I had felt a brokenness and humiliation that went beyond the normal daily dose of disrespect I had been enduring!!
MOM listened through my tears, served me up a hot chocolate and just listened—with her whole heart! I was only 6, but I know when I was being respected and HEARD…my LOVE for my mother goes WAY BACK to those early days…
Lorraine Melcher — my loving mother lived her faith, and she passed the baton to me at a very early age!! Mom taught me how to listen, how to connect and how to LOVE—no matter what the circumstance!
Thanks Mom for you unwavering love and kindness…I miss you and I will always hold you close in my heart!!
